I didn’t plan to slow down.
I had plans.
Deadlines.
Groceries to buy.
Laundry that somehow multiplies overnight.
Kids who still need rides, lunches, reminders, and comfort.
And then my body decided we were done pretending.
Not in a dramatic way.
Not in a collapse-on-the-floor way.
But in a quiet, unmistakable way that said:
You cannot keep pushing like this.
There’s something deeply humbling about when your body forces you to slow down.
You can’t outwork it.
You can’t mindset your way through it.
You can’t drink more coffee and power on.
Your body doesn’t negotiate.
And if you’re a mom, slowing down doesn’t look the way it does in the movies. There’s no quiet retreat. No uninterrupted naps. No world pausing while you recover.
There’s still breakfast.
Still homework.
Still “Mom, can you…” echoing down the hallway.
You are healing…
while still being needed.
And that’s the part no one really talks about.
I didn’t expect the guilt.
The guilt of sitting when the kitchen isn’t clean.
The guilt of saying “not right now.”
The guilt of watching everyone else move at full speed while you move carefully.
I didn’t expect the fear either.
When your body forces you to slow down, it makes you realize how much you’ve ignored. How many times you pushed through exhaustion. How long you’ve been running on adrenaline instead of rest.
It makes you face the truth that you are not invincible.
And maybe you were never meant to be.
There’s a softness in this season I didn’t ask for. A tenderness in moving slower. In listening closer. In realizing that strength isn’t always powering through.
Sometimes strength looks like laying down.
Sometimes it looks like canceling plans.
Or asking for help.
Or admitting you can’t carry it all.
I don’t like being forced to slow down.
But maybe this isn’t punishment.
Maybe this is protection.
Maybe my body isn’t betraying me.
Maybe it’s finally asking to be cared for the way I care for everyone else.
And maybe slowing down isn’t the end of momentum.
Maybe it’s the beginning of healing.
Have you ever been in a season where your body forces you to slow down?
I’d love to know what it taught you.

This is a timely reminder to slow down and take care of ourselves. Peace is the best present we can give ourselves
Very good topic! so important to recognize our body needs and give us a chance to rechange!
