Or was it the other way around?
I wish I could remover what my nana used to tell us when we were down with a cold or flu.
Whatever “this” is had been trying to pull both my husband and myself down since early last Thursday.
we didn’t opt to vaccinate our family with the flu vaccine.
The very first and only time I got a flu shot I was sick for entire week.
so sick I couldn’t even get out of bed or go to work or take care of anyone.
Including myself.
“it’s a coincidence” that I just so happen to get sick right after I got my flu vaccine?
I don’t believe it.
our children are all immunized with all the “normal health Canada” recommended immunizations. We even opted to get our oldest the HPV vaccine amidst all the controversy.
But for the flu? No.
The last few days I’ve got my very first glimpse menopause might look like.
It’s my own personal tropical heatwave. it’s a constant battle.
First I’m freezing and searching for my socks and I’m bundling up with a big thick blanket in front of the fireplace the next minute I’m throwing everything off because I’m sweltering.
Who the heck turned up the heat?
We have the humidifier running in our room and I’ve already dug out the sniffle cream to slather on my poor nose. But for the most part it hasn’t been that bad. Seriously.
It hasn’t been like a Niquil commercial.
No one is moaning lying on the sofa trying to convince you that you should call for their mother.
Sure I’ve been a little achy but in the scale from one to 10 this is about a 6.
I’m believing we aren’t as sick as we could be because we’ve been juicing a lot the last little bit whatever this “is” hasn’t been able to get a really good foothold.
The kids love to help make the juice but as soon as it’s ready to drink the only one who sticks around is the youngest. Unless it’s fruit then good luck getting a glass.
We have been juicing carrots and garlic which have been known to boost immunity and it’s working!
I don’t know if The old saying is true or if it’s just an old saying.
I wonder what my nana would have thought of hearing me tell my monkeys to drink their veggies?
What tried-and-true methods have you used to get over a cold?
I always try to have my kids sleep it off. A good nights rest is always best!
When I am sick, the things that make me feel best are my snuggly dogs, hot tea and sleep. 🙂 I have taken the flu shot in the past though, and not gotten sick.
Sleep sounds so blissful right now!
Have never had the pleasure of snuggling a dog so I will take your word for it!
I don’t do the flu shot. I have had it myself a couple of times and it made me sick.
I just love that photo of all your kids in the kitchen together, doing up some fresh food, so sweet and so awesome! We don’t do flu shots. None of my three have been sick at all this year. We smoothie it up, and loads of vitamin C and greens. Two of my neighbors who never used to get the shot decided to this year, and they have both been sick now for three straight months. I find it very difficult to believe that the desire for health, wellness, and livelihood of the general population is at the core of anything so hard pushed. If that were the case, we wouldn’t have to fight so hard just to have GMO foods labeled, or fight so hard to stop oil spills and radiation leaks into our water, and there wouldn’t still be cigarettes on the market. Okay, I’ll shut up now 🙂
I’m all about the juice and hot soup when I’ve got a cold. Oh, and lots and lots of sleep!
Glad you’re starting to feel better! We don’t vaccinate at all or medicate at all and go all natural. We do vitamin D3, garlic, cinnamon, local honey, elderberry and use some essential oils when we’re sick. We ‘starve’ sicknesses too… or at least eat less and push more liquids.
I really need to get into juicing. I keep hearing wonderful things about it.
Elderberry tea is the solution for runny noses around our house!
that is great – love juicing! I juice carrots and apples when my kids are sick – the carrots reduce the flem.
The one time my son got the flu vaccine at 6 months he was sick too so we never get it. He hasn’t been sick since. I’ve never gotten it and I’m surprised that my husband comes in here a few times a year sick because of contact with people at work and me and my son, thank God, still haven’t gotten sick. 🙂
We don’t do anything special in our household, besides the chicken soup. We don’t tend to get sick too often so not sure what really helps.
I can never remember and I have done it both ways with little success. I think rest is best.
I have respiratory problems, so I get my flu shot every year. Luckily, I have never felt ill after getting the vaccine. My Mom swears that she gets sick whenever she gets the flu vaccine. It must affect everyone differently. Whatever it is you have going on, I hope the juice gets you back to normal soon.
We take zinc during colds and drink hot water with lemon and honey for sore throats.
I do not do the flu. Both times I did – I got sick.
We also vaccinate but do not do the flu shot. I hope you all feel better very soon!
Aww, I hope you all feel better soon! I tend to pop vitamin C and drink lots of water when I’m feeling a cold coming…
We love anything homeopathic and of course plenty of vitamins during the flu. Rest is absolutely key too.
At this point with all the illness going around I am willing to try everything.
rest and fluids. and wash wash wash hands. best defense
Homemade chicken soup is always a favorite here. We don’t do flu shots either.
Sleep! Sleep! And more sleep! LOL
I love to juice! I never thought of adding garlic in-wow! i will have to mention it to my husband!
New home remedies for me…I will be giving them a try. I try to eat right and wash my hands all the time to help stay healthy. It seems like this year…many different viruses are going around. So many are sick.
I am the exact same way. We vaccinate – but not for the flu. Garlic is AWESOME for fighting the crud, but I have such a hard time with it. I have to mask it to eat it. I juice, but I’m not sure I could do the garlic along with the carrots. IF I get sick I may just have to try it though. I poured raw honey over a lemon that I had cut up(and ginger that I had grated) and put it in the fridge. It will keep for a year. Simply take a spoonful of it in a cup and pour hot water over it. It really helps too!
