New Year’s Eve for kids

12/28/15 | Celebrate, New Years

new year's eve

New Year’s Eve is a time of celebration with friends and loved ones. I’m excited about closing out the old year and ringing in a new year full of new adventures, new opportunities and lots of new memories!  The celebrations looks a lot different now that we have kids.  The day’s of wearing a fancy dress, sipping champagne, and staying up late waiting for the clock to strike midnight isn’t a reality to  a lot of us anymore thanks to our kids.

Here’s the good news: you can still throw a new year’s eve party that you and the kids will both enjoy. Check out these kid (and adult)-friendly party ideas we rounded up for this coming Eve. So don’t even think of slipping into those comfy pants and turn off the t.v!

You and your little ones will have so much fun that you’ll make a plan to do this every year!

My kids spend new years with my parents every year. It is something that they love to do! I will have to pass these ideas on to my mom

I love these suggestions for NYE! We plan to go to a big party but the kids have nothing to do. I am totally making them the memory scavenger hunt to complete with the babysitter. Happy new year!

I know that confetti poppers are a fun thing for kids and grown-ups. Something we do, is do a family “Olympics” of sorts with games, inside sports etc. Mixing the teams with young and old. We do have a lot of laughs.

These are great ideas! I was thinking about doing a noon-year countdown with the kids, since they won’t be up until midnight (hopefully!). I love to sit and reflect on the previous year myself, and last year started doing little interviews with my oldest two so they can reflect on their year as well.

Such fun ideas! I always stay up late with my son, it’s become a tradition. My other 2 are old enough to stay up, too, so I’m hoping to put some of these ideas to use.

We were just discussing NYE plans last night and talking about how we have celebrated in the past when our kids were little. NYE is very low key for my husband and I but if my kids want to have a party. Not so much.

I always want to get our kids involved with New Year’s but am never sure how to since they can’t stay up that late yet. I am going to try the memory scavenger hunt with them! Thanks for the ideas.

Great ideas. We have never really celebrated NYE with the kids. Maybe this year we will make some of those confetti poppers.

These activities look like so much fun! My kids are so young that midnight isn’t even close to a possibility, but it’ll be fun to party a bit before bedtime! (Plus, they go to bed early enough that Mommy and Daddy can have a bit of wine at midnight!)

We love snuggling up and watching movies on NYE, now that we have kids! Last year, we had a party with 3 other families and it was so fun to have 17 kiddos running around and enjoy our friends at the same time!

I don’t have children, but my husband and I tend to do low key on New Year’s Eve, mostly to avoid any crazy crowds. I’ve been thinking of doing a party at our house with our friends that is a PJ party (no fancy clothes here!) and that milk & cookies idea is awesome!

I like the idea of countdown bags and the party props are cool. You should set up a photo booth so they can all take pictures.
