Over the years I have learned that really there are two kinds of posts making it’s rounds on New Years eve.
The first is the classic ” new years resolution post” where the author reminisces over what the year looked like for them and then they go on to shares the wonderful things they plan on achieve in the next. Inspiring yes, but realistic? Am I the only one that vowed to do “this” then three weeks into the new year life got busy and I simply forgot? was meaning to write the goal down but didn’t? yeah, me either.
The second is “what not to wear and what to eat post” to usher in the New Year followed with amazing pictures of sparking beverages and tantalizing dishes. Yup, not me either. Give me a cold beer and a slice of gooey cheese pizza and I’m content to snuggle under the blankets and binge on netflix for hours.
If you came here looking for either of those two posts then you have come to the wrong place.
My personal facebook feed is littered with “extreme weigh loss tips & exercise routines”. Tips to save me time and money and steps on how to live frugally. A week ago I blindly clicked and joined a “get your life organized” group that promises to help me clear the clutter and excess out of my home.
Yeah, I have already misplaced the link and as luck would go everything kicks off tomorrow morning at the dawn of 2015. Oops!
Lifestyle changes take time, and lots effort and even though all of those resolutions are good in their own right sometimes all I really need is a reminder to quiet myself and listen to what He wants me to do with my life.
I have learned that usually when I go off on my own very rarely do I succeed {if ever}, almost always I end up flat on my butt wallowing in my failure.
It’s in that place where I realize that I need to hand everything over to Him.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3: 5-6 NIV
I wade in and out of different hobbies and interests but for the most part I tend to navigate more to the creative side of things. It’s in that space where I feel the most alive. I was made to create.
I don’t have to try there.
The process just happens.
This New Years eve I won’t be worried about what I am going to eat or what I am going to wear because what I won’t remember any of that 5,10 or even 15 years from now. I will remember the conversations and the laughter, the happy smiles of those around me and the authentic people I am choosing to usher in the New Year with.
I won’t be making any resolutions this New Years Eve but instead I am going to wait and see what He has in store for me in 2015.
Our family was blessed beyond what we could have ever expect or imagine in 2014 and all we did was listen and follow Him. Step by step. Day by day.
I’m leaving the pages of 2015 blank for Him and I can’t wait to see what He has planned for all of us.
I hope that where ever you are and whatever you are doing tonight that you and yours have a wonderful New Years!
See you in 2015

I love Brad Paisley – He is my favorite country artist. And the quote fits perfectly. Happy New Year!
I don’t make resolutions but I do make goals. I love reading about how 2014 turned out for everyone.
Mmm, I love that quote. So much happens, shifts and changes within the span of 365 days! I am a firm believer in seizing the day 🙂
I totally agree with you… a year ago things looked quite different to the reality that is today.
I’m excited to see what this new year will bring and am taking it one day at a time.
What a perfect quote. I hope your first page of the year started off great! Happy New Year!
I’m so excited to see what this year has in store for us!
