Hippity Hoppity, Easter is on its way! One of my favourite ways to celebrate Easter is balking! Here’s a fun Easter cupcake decorating idea… digging bunnies! Everyone loves cupcakes, so why not serve up a batch of super cute Easter cupcakes this year? These cotton-tail cupcakes will have your kids begging to help you in the kitchen. It’s super easy, super cute, and can be created by anyone! If I had to guess, I’d say they’re digging for cadbury mini eggs. I’m kind of smitten with these little guys- like I really don’t think I’m going to be able to eat one. They’re all cupcake and buttercream … on second though, maybe I will be able to eat one! They are actually pretty easy to put together and they’ll definitely add some sparkle to your Easter celebration.
I’ve seen a few bunny butt cakes floating around and I thought it would be so cute to create a cotton-tail cupcake. I said they were easy right?
Okay, so let me take you though the process so you can see just how simple it is.
How to make Cotton tail cupcakes
Start by Whipping up a batch of your favourite cupcakes and allow to cool.
Tint half the medium consistency buttercream icing green & Fill piping bag with green buttercream.
Using tip #233 hold the decorating bag 90 degrees straight up; the tip should be 1/8 in. above the surface of the cupcake.
Squeeze the bag to form grass. Pull up and away when icing strand is long enough 9 (about 1/2 inch) stop pressure and pull tip away. Grass will be neatly formed only if you stop squeezing before you pull tip away.
Pipe grass on all your cupcakes.
(we used candy grass in the cupcakes we made but both options are quick and easy)
For the cotton-tail, cut 1 large marshmallow in half.
Using a dab of icing place onto the middle of the cupcake
For the tail and feet use a small marshmallow and cut in half, use a dab of icing to attach.
You’ll find complete instructions below and after you make a few, you’ll get the hang of it.

- Your choice of cupcakes, baked
- 1 batch buttercream icing
- green food colouring
- tip #233 for grass
- 12 Large marshmallows
- 36 small marshmallows

- Fill piping bag with green buttercream and using tip #133 pipe grass on cupcakes.
- For the bunny’s butt, cut 1 large marshmallow in half.
- Using a dab of icing place onto the middle of the cupcake

- ** you can substitute with candy grass or green coloured coconut if your strapped for time.
