Don’t Miss out- 5 Braces- Friendly Holiday Favorites

11/06/18 | live

Braces are beneficial for straightening your teeth. When you get them off, you’ll realize that all of the hardships associated with wearing them were minimal. Unfortunately, you’ll probably be in braces over the holidays. However, that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice all of the delicious foods that the rest of your family enjoys.

Caramel Pudding
There are usually quite a few foods that are made with caramel for the holidays, such as caramel apples. This is a food that shouldn’t be consumed because it can stick to your brackets and possibly cause one to break off. Caramel pudding is an option to consider because it isn’t sticky and still delivers the delicious taste of this fun food. Add caramel pudding to some of the pies and cakes that you make for added moisture and flavour

Brownies
Cut brownies into festive shapes for the holiday season. Ideas include Christmas trees, snowmen, or a reindeer. Decorate the brownies that you cut out to give them some color and a bit more texture than plain brownies. If you want to take brownies a step further, create a trifle with layers of brownie, ice cream, and red sprinkles.

Walnut Sugar Cookies
Since walnuts are a softer nut, you can usually enjoy them while wearing braces. Make a batch of sugar cookies that you decorate for the holidays like you normally would. After they are decorated, add chopped walnuts to the top of them for a crunchy treat. You can also blend walnuts into the sugar cookie dough that you make for a nice crunch throughout the cookie. Sugar cookie bars with walnuts are an option as well with a layer of cream in the middle.

Custard Pies
An egg custard pie is one that many people associate with the holiday season. Since eggs are easy to eat with braces in general, a custard pie is a good option to enjoy. Create a festive pie by using peppermint oil and decorating the top with red icing or red sprinkles. You can substitute almonds and pecan flavouring in pies to get the flavour profile without the crunch.

Cakes
As long as you avoid the cakes with hard nuts or candies in them, then you can eat just about any kind of cake that’s a holiday favourite. A chocolate cake with whipped chocolate cream for layers is an option. You can substitute almonds and pecans with flavouring in any recipe to get the flavour profile without the crunch.

Wearing braces doesn’t mean that you have to give up eating fun foods like everyone else. You just have to make sure the foods that you eat are made with ingredients that won’t lead to an emergency visit to your local orthodontist.  Remember that you won’t be in braces forever and that you’ll be rewarded with beautiful straight teeth in no time.
