Whether you live in a home that is too small for all of the belongings that you have, or you seem to accumulate more things than you need, there are a few hacks to keep in mind to decrease the clutter. Many storage hacks are inexpensive and can be accomplished with little effort and in a short time. You can also use many items that you already have in your home to add more storage where needed. Here are four storage hacks to help save space.
Hooks
If you lack space in closets, then put S-hooks or other types of hooks on the rails. This design will allow you to hang items in the closet vertically instead of taking up horizontal space on shelves. Ideas for hooks in the home include hanging cleaning supplies in a storage closet or cooking utensils in a kitchen cabinet instead of putting everything on a shelf. This idea also works well in closets with hangars and clothes as you can use hooks in a vertical fashion to decrease the space across the rod.
Velcro
This is a simple product to use, but you can increase the storage in the home by putting Velcro on the walls. Put everything from remote controls, game controls and other items that tend to get lost or don’t have their own space on the walls. The Velcro pieces can be cut to the size that you need and are easily put on the wall with sticky paper.
Racks
A rack of any size can become added storage anywhere in the home. Smaller racks can be used to hold wallets, small purses, and clutches. You can also use racks to sort lids to containers, books or movies. The rack will keep everything from falling over and getting lost whether it’s on a shelf or in a drawer. You can usually find racks of all sizes that are inexpensive at dollar stores. Most are made of materials that can be painted so that they can be customized as well.
Display Boxes
An easy way to increase the amount of storage that is in the home is to use display boxes or half-slotted containers that only have one set of flaps to hold essential items in a room. Examples include towels in the bathroom or cookware in the kitchen. You can paint and customize the boxes that you use so that they blend with the other designs in the room.
Increasing the storage in the home might seem a bit challenging, especially if you don’t have a lot of space to work with. It’s best to start small with a few boxes or racks before moving toward larger projects so that you know what needs to be stored in the home. Try to customize as much as you can by painting and decorating to add personality and storage at the same time.
