15 fun Fall Family Activities

10/01/15 | fall, Grow, live

Fun Fall Family ActivitiesAre you looking for some fun fall family activities that you can do with your little ones?

I have to admit, Autumn is one of my very favourite seasons because everything is so beautiful, the air is cool and it feels like a much needed break after a hot summer.  Crisp fall days lend themselves perfectly to throwing on a sweater and embarking on family fun from sun up till sun down.  If you can’t wait to get outside and hear the crunch of leaves beneath your feet, here are 15  fun fall family activities to get you started!  Let’s go!

15 FALL FAMILY ACTIVITIES

1.Go on a fall scavenger hunt! Get together with some other families or invite some of your child’s friends over for a fun fall scavenger hunt looking for natural things.

Follow Heather Lawrence’s board Fall Scavenger hunts! on Pinterest.
 2. Get creative with those little baby pumpkins you can usually buy at the store this time of year. Get glue, stickers, glitter, markers- anything you can think of, even googly eyes, and decorate them. Why not have a contest on who can make the weirdest or creepiest one? Or make these cute  Fabric Pumpkin instead!

Fabric Pumpkin3. Do some leaf rubbings! This is especially fun in the earlier part of fall when the leave have changed and are just starting to fall. Gather many kinds of leaves and place them beneath a piece paper. Using the side of a crayon rub and your leaf will magically appear

4. Go apple-picking and after you are done, go home and make an apple cinnamon loaf or whip up a batch of applesauce.

5. Check out the farmer’s market!  Ask your child to help you pick out dinner. Encourage them to try new foods.

6. Do a multi-family bonfire if your town permits it. With the nighttime temperatures dropping, a bonfire is a perfect way to enjoy the cooler nights and stay warm. End the summer season with some s’mores! You could even camp out if weather permits.
Follow Heather Lawrence’s board Ooey Gooey S’mores Recipes on Pinterest.

7. Stuff a scarecrow. Gather some old clothes and some hay and make a scarecrow that is sure to delight your friends and neighbours. Kids love doing this almost as much as making snowmen in the winter! Make a couple of them and pose them in funny ways. You could even do each member of your family if you wanted!

8. Get lost in your local corn maze and warm up after with some hot chocolate!

9. Make and play with fall themed  Pumpkin Spice Play Dough

10. Make a beautiful Fall Burlap Wreath for your front door!

11. Write a fall bucket list- it doesn’t have to be anything serious- but it will be fun to turn to your list for ideas next time you hear a chorus of “Mom, I’m bored…”

12. Take a hike- explore a local park or new neighbourhood on a kid-friendly hike.

13. Create an outdoor Science Lab- science is fun, but it can get pretty messy.  So bring the lab outside and let kids mix and spill to their heart’s content!
Follow Heather Lawrence’s board Science Experiments for Kids on Pinterest.
14. Make a fall sensory bin- sensory boxes are fun ways to get kids talking about what they’re seeing and feeling.  This fall sensory bin is a great way to warp a theme around the bin.

15. Take a drive- take a meandering drive down a scenic stretch near your home and simply soak in the beauty of the changing leaves.

What are some of your favourite fall family activities?
I would love to hear all about them in the comments below.

The leaf rubbings are something the boys miss lol. We moved from Boston to Florida 6 years ago. So the color in the fall is missed.

Sounds like a great group of idea. This dog family takes their pup pumpkin picking and for hay rides, too – and the families we meet love it. Happy Fall!

It’s a lot of fun! Quite humid though. The corn maze here has a Halloween event at the end of the Minh but I’m much too chicken to go then.
